Former Kentucky Governor Arrested on Christmas Movie Set

Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin was arrested while working as an extra on the set of a Christmas movie in Kentucky, in connection with an ongoing divorce and child support case.

Bevin, 59, was taken into custody on Thursday, September 3, by the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office while filming the Christian holiday movie The Greatest Christmas Gift of All at a horse farm in Paris, Kentucky.

According to reports, the former governor had an active bench warrant in Jefferson County after being found in contempt of court for allegedly failing to provide financial records requested in connection with his divorce and child support proceedings.

Jessica Mohr, owner of the horse farm where the movie was being filmed, said authorities arrived on the set looking for Bevin.

“The sheriff showed up and was asking some people if they’d seen his picture,” Mohr told Louisville Public Media. She said a young man eventually directed officers to Bevin, who was speaking with one of the film’s lead actors when he was arrested.

Bevin had reportedly faced another warrant earlier this year after failing to appear at a May court hearing. He reportedly explained that a large boulder had struck his vacation home in Maine, preventing him from attending the hearing.

He later paid a fine and that warrant was withdrawn. However, a second warrant was issued in June after he allegedly failed to provide financial documents ordered by the court.

Bevin again failed to appear for a July 28 hearing, leaving the warrant active until his arrest on the movie set.

Following his arrest, Bevin appeared before a judge on Friday, September 4. He was denied bond and ordered to spend 60 days in jail for contempt of court. The judge said he could potentially be released after 30 days if he demonstrates improvement.

Bevin had been working as a “featured extra” in The Greatest Christmas Gift of All, a Christian Christmas movie being produced by Great American Family. The film stars Danica McKellar and Matthew Marsden and was being shot at a horse farm in Paris, Kentucky.

Bevin served as Kentucky’s 62nd governor from 2015 to 2019. A Republican, he lost his bid for re-election in 2019 to Democrat Andy Beshear, who currently serves as Kentucky governor.
