Five Bauchi Police Officers Killed in Ambush by Fulani Herdsmen in Darazo LGA

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of five officers following an ambush by Fulani herdsmen in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area. The incident occurred on November 22, 2025, during a visibility patrol aimed at preventing and managing farmer–herder conflicts in the area.

CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, spokesperson for the command, disclosed on Sunday, November 23, that several attackers were neutralised during the operation.

According to Wakil, intelligence from a Good Samaritan alerted police that personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID) had been ambushed by unidentified Fulani youths.

Tragically, the ambush claimed the lives of:

  1. DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID)
  2. ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF)
  3. Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF)
  4. Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF)
  5. Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU)

Two other officers sustained injuries:

  1. Inspector Isah Musa (SID)
  2. Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID)

“The Bauchi State Police Command regrets and mourns this unfortunate and tragic incident. Our officers were on a constitutionally mandated patrol to prevent, mitigate, and manage farmer–herder conflicts,” the statement read.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Auwalu Ilu, led reinforcements to the scene, rescuing the injured and recovering the deceased, who were evacuated to the general hospital in Darazo and deposited at the morgue.

Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators. Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, conducted an on-the-spot assessment and extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to bringing the culprits to justice and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.

“As challenging as these tasks are, in line with our constitutional mandate, we shall remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in our commitment to the safety and security of lives and property,” the statement concluded.
