Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned 10 newly completed intra-city road projects in Makurdi, Benue State, alongside a Community ICT Training Centre in Vandeikya Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure development and digital empowerment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The road projects, covering about 11.5 kilometres, were executed under the first phase of the Benue State Government’s Urban Renewal Programme led by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Makurdi, the First Lady described the projects as a clear demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that they were designed to directly improve the lives of citizens.

She commended Governor Alia for what she called visionary leadership and commitment to delivering visible democratic dividends to the people of the state.

According to her, the newly completed roads, including the Shire Bakut dual carriageway and several connecting routes within Makurdi, would ease movement, improve security, and boost economic activities across the city.

She urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure its proper maintenance, describing the roads as pathways to growth and development.

Governor Alia, in his remarks, said the projects would enhance accessibility, reduce travel time, and strengthen connectivity between communities within the state capital.

After the road commissioning, the First Lady proceeded to Ihugh in Vandeikya LGA, where she officially handed over a Community ICT Training Centre established through a partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

She explained that the ICT facility was aimed at promoting digital literacy, economic diversification, and skills acquisition among women and young people, enabling them to participate more actively in the digital economy.

Tinubu added that ICT training would empower communities, particularly women, to overcome traditional barriers and access new opportunities for growth and self-reliance.

The centre has been named the Lucy Zaiyol Alluor Community ICT Centre in honour of a respected educationist and former school principal in Benue State.

With the latest commissioning, the Benue ICT centre becomes the fourth established under the NITDA–RHI partnership, following similar projects in Bauchi, Kwara, and Oyo States.
