The immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), insisting that he remains a committed member of the ruling party.

Adelabu’s position was contained in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, and made available in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday.

The clarification comes amid online speculation alleging that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had concluded arrangements to join the SDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the claims, Adelabu described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that they were designed to create unnecessary political tension and misinform the public.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stating that he has no intention of leaving the party and remains fully committed to its ideals and leadership.

The statement also criticised those behind the rumour, describing the reports as a deliberate attempt to manufacture a political narrative and attract undue attention.

It further noted that Adelabu’s political stance remains unchanged, adding that “no amount of propaganda or wishful thinking” would force a shift in his allegiance to the APC.
