The Jos Main Market Authority has confirmed the occurrence of a minor fire incident at the Terminus Market in Jos in the late hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

According to the management, preliminary on-the-spot assessments have yet to establish the exact cause of the fire. While initial observations suggest that the incident may have been linked to an unattended source of heat within the market area, investigations are still ongoing and no definitive conclusion has been reached.

The Authority disclosed that the fire was promptly brought under control following the swift intervention of officers and men of the Federal Fire Service and the Plateau State Fire Service. Their timely response ensured that the fire was successfully extinguished, limiting the damage to a small section of the market.

Security agencies have since secured the affected area to safeguard traders’ property and maintain order, while normal activities have largely resumed within the market.

The Jos Main Market Authority also stated that it is working in collaboration with relevant government agencies to assess the situation and provide necessary support to traders affected by the incident, with the aim of offering relief as quickly as possible.
