Former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi has dismissed claims by former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi that they jointly initiated discussions to form an opposition coalition.
Amaechi, during an X Space session on Saturday, alleged that he and Fayemi began talks about creating a new political party before involving other politicians.
“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so it would involve more than just the two of us,” Amaechi said.
However, in a statement on Sunday signed by the head of his media office, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described the claim as “false and misleading,” adding that he remains a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted. We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis,” Sajoh stated. “Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State. He has consistently affirmed his dedication to the party, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”
