Nigerian musician and activist Falz joined his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, alongside other civil society groups in a protest held in Lagos on June 12, 2026, to mark Democracy Day.
The demonstration, organised by a coalition of civil society organisations and labour groups, was aimed at drawing attention to rising insecurity, kidnappings, and worsening economic hardship across Nigeria.
Protesters expressed concern over repeated attacks on communities and the continued abduction of students and residents in different parts of the country.
Falz, speaking during the protest, questioned the safety of schoolchildren amid ongoing kidnappings, describing the situation as alarming and unacceptable.
The protest formed part of a nationwide action coordinated across several states, with participants calling on the government to take urgent and more effective steps to address insecurity and improve living conditions.
Authorities are yet to issue an official response to the demonstrations, which coincided with Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations.
