Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme has been appointed to oversee the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as interim General Secretary following the resignation of key federation officials, including NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
Ikpeme will lead the federation’s secretariat during the transition period as efforts are made to stabilise the administration of Nigerian football.
Dr Ademola Olajire, the NFF’s former Director of Media and Communications, has also been appointed interim Deputy General Secretary.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has suspended all processes relating to the NFF Elective Congress, which was scheduled to take place on September 27.
According to the commission, a new electoral timetable will be established after comprehensive reforms have been developed in consultation with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The development follows the recent resignation of senior NFF officials and comes amid calls for reforms within the administration of Nigerian football.
To ensure continuity in the management of domestic competitions, administrators across the country’s national leagues, including the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) and Nationwide League One (NLO), have been directed to hand over league management responsibilities to their respective Chief Operating Officers.
The directive is intended to ensure that league operations continue smoothly while the federation undergoes the transition and reform process.
