Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has been ranked the best team in Africa and 8th globally in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings.

The August 14 update saw Nigeria climb from 11th to 8th with 640.1 points, making them the only African side ever to enter the world’s top 10.

The ranking boost follows their historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket title in Abidjan, where they defeated Senegal 78–64 in the final. The win extended their unbeaten AfroBasket run to 29 games, dating back to 2015, and secured their seventh continental crown overall.

Globally, the United States (880.9) retains the top spot, followed by Australia, France, China, and Belgium. Spain, Canada, and Nigeria complete the top eight.

Other notable movers include Lithuania (up 14 places to 31st), South Sudan (historic 3rd-place AfroBasket debut), Lebanon (+13 to 41st), Indonesia (+19 to 60th), Iran (+15 to 44th), and Mongolia (+20 to 70th).
