Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have rescued the remaining four students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Zamfara State.
The students were abducted on June 3, 2026, after gunmen attacked their off-campus hostel in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town, taking six students hostage during the raid.
According to security sources, the rescue operation was carried out late Wednesday through an intelligence-led mission by DSS operatives. The operation resulted in the safe recovery of the remaining captives without the payment of any ransom.
The rescued victims include four male students and one female student. Two of the six abducted students had earlier regained their freedom, while the latest operation secured the release of the remaining four.
During the rescue mission, one of the suspected kidnappers was arrested, while the other members of the criminal gang were neutralised during the operation.
Security agencies said the successful rescue followed sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations aimed at ensuring the students’ safe return.
The operation brings an end to weeks of uncertainty for the victims’ families, the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda community, and residents of Zamfara State, who had anxiously awaited the students’ release. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts against criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and other violent crimes across the state.
