The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Abubakar Abba, leader of Mahmuda, one of the most feared terror groups in West Africa.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.

According to the governor, Abba was captured alive in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, after weeks of surveillance around the Kainji National Park. He has since been taken to Abuja for further investigation.

Governor Bago described the operation as a “huge victory” for Nigeria, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to ending insecurity.

“This arrest shows the resolve of President Tinubu to promote the well-being of Nigerians,” he said, praising the intelligence and precision of the DSS in capturing the high-profile suspect without firing a single shot.
