A fully loaded 33,000-litre diesel tanker overturned on Akala Expressway in Ibadan on Friday, January 16, 2026, spilling fuel across the roadway and crushing a parked black Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV belonging to a female driver.

The woman was reportedly away from her vehicle at the time of the incident, having stepped out briefly to buy food near the OPay office. She returned moments later to find her SUV completely flattened beneath the overturned tanker.

A video of the aftermath, shared on X, showed the visibly distraught woman making a phone call to her husband, lamenting the incident and insisting that the tanker driver should replace her vehicle.

Despite the scale of the accident and the large volume of diesel spilled on the road, no fire outbreak occurred and no injuries were reported.

The incident has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many users expressing relief that the woman narrowly escaped harm, while others advised her to prioritise her life over material loss. Some commentators also referenced Nigeria’s unreliable insurance system and the recurring danger posed by fuel tankers on major highways.
