The death toll from a fatal road accident along the Okposi-Amasiri Road in Ebonyi State has climbed to four, according to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu.
The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 2 p.m. and involved 2024 Batch C Stream 2 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members traveling to the Orientation Camp in Afikpo Local Government Area.
The crash involved an Enugu North Mass Transit vehicle, which collided with a stationary truck near the Okposi axis in Ohaozara Local Government Area. The impact claimed lives and left several others injured.
Hospital authorities confirmed in a statement late Thursday that thirteen victims were brought in for emergency care.
Two succumbed to their injuries upon arrival, while two others are receiving treatment in the surgical ward. The remaining victims are being cared for in the accident and emergency ward.
Meanwhile, one corps member escaped without injuries, while the driver sustained severe cervical injuries.
The survivors are said to be recuperating, and hospital officials are hopeful about their chances of making a full recovery.
