Authorities at Dangote Refinery have denied reports that the company plans to stop supplying petroleum products to the Nigerian market.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for Dangote Group, dismissed the claim, stating, “I am not aware.”

Reports had emerged on Wednesday suggesting that Dangote Refinery was considering halting fuel loading for the domestic market due to challenges in renegotiating the naira-for-crude deal. However, sources close to the matter indicated that the refinery would continue fuel exports, as it currently sources all its crude from the international market in dollars.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently confirmed ongoing discussions with Dangote Refinery regarding a new naira-for-crude contract. The arrangement, introduced in October 2024, allowed the refinery to purchase crude in naira through NNPCL and, in turn, supply fuel to Nigerian marketers in local currency.

In recent months, a price war between Dangote Refinery and NNPCL has contributed to a drop in premium motor spirit (PMS) prices, with petrol selling as low as N860 per litre.
