Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Custodial Centre following the revocation of his bail.

The court also dismissed an application filed by Sowore seeking the judge’s recusal from the case over allegations of bias.

Sowore is currently facing cybercrime charges instituted by the Department of State Services over a social media post in which he allegedly referred to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “a criminal.”

In a brief ruling delivered on Monday, Justice Umar directed that the activist remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his application seeking a stay of execution of the order revoking his bail and the bench warrant issued against him.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the application.

The remand order follows a ruling delivered last week in which the court revoked Sowore’s bail after finding that he had failed to appear for proceedings in his ongoing trial.
