A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted ₦50 million bail to popular Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, better known as Pretty Mike, following his arraignment on Thursday over alleged drug-related offences.
Pretty Mike, the owner of Proxy Lagos Night Club, was arraigned alongside the club’s supervisor, Joachim Hillary, 32, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa.
The duo faced a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of drugs, and permitting the use of premises for drug-related activities.
According to NDLEA prosecutor Buhari Abdullahi, the offences were allegedly committed on October 26, 2025, at the nightclub located at No. 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The agency accused the defendants of organising a drug party where operatives recovered:
- 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa, and
- 177 cylinders of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) weighing 364.662 kilograms.
The prosecutor also alleged that Hillary was found in possession of Cannabis Sativa a day earlier, on October 25, 2025, while Pretty Mike was accused of knowingly allowing his club premises to be used for illicit drug activities.
Abdullahi told the court that the offences contravened Sections 14(b) and 20(1)(c) and were punishable under Sections 20(2)(b) and 12 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their plea, defence counsel Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN) applied for bail, arguing that the defendants had no prior criminal records and were not flight risks.
However, the prosecutor opposed the application, urging the court to deny bail and order an accelerated hearing.
In his ruling, Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that the defendants were presumed innocent until proven guilty, adding that the burden lay on the prosecution to justify the denial of bail.
He consequently granted ₦50 million bail to each defendant, with two sureties in like sum, and directed that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means.
The judge further ordered that the defendants be released to their counsel pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned to January 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
