The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of N2 billion with two sureties in like amount.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who delivered the ruling on Monday, ordered that one of the sureties must be a resident of Abuja and provide a three-year tax clearance certificate. The second surety must own landed property in Abuja valued at N2 billion.
As part of the bail conditions, the court directed Bodejo to deposit his international passport with the court registrar and barred him from travelling outside Nigeria without the court’s permission.
Justice Ekwo held that the offences against the defendant are bailable and that the court has the discretion to grant bail.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until October 5, 6 and 7, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
Bodejo has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since July 9 after he was arraigned on allegations of money laundering.
The EFCC, through its counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN), filed the charges dated June 24 and submitted on June 25, naming Bodejo as the sole defendant.
At his arraignment, Bodejo pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Following his plea, the prosecution requested a trial date and urged the court to remand him pending trial.
Counsel to the defendant, Ahmed Raji (SAN), informed the court that a bail application had already been filed on June 30, arguing that the alleged offences are bailable under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Although the EFCC opposed the application and urged the court to refuse bail, Justice Ekwo ruled in favour of the defendant and admitted him to bail subject to the conditions imposed by the court.
