Popular Nigerian content creator Akinyemi Oluwaseun Omotayo, better known as Asherkine, has opened up on why he stopped producing binge-eating videos — a genre that once made him a viral sensation.
Asherkine, who was known for sharing videos of himself consuming large portions of food in one sitting, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that the habit took a toll on both his physical and mental health.
“I genuinely enjoyed clearing up over five different meals regularly until my body told me,” he wrote.
“Even though I had an active lifestyle and tried to stay fit, I lost the concept of moderation as mindless binge eating became the order of the day. I wouldn’t stop eating until I started to feel abdominal discomfort.”
The content creator said the excessive eating led to gluttony, weight gain, irregular sleep, heart palpitations, and even high blood pressure, leaving him to battle both the physical aftermath and a “mental struggle” to regain control.
“Despite being full, I always wanted to keep eating. Gluttony had made its way. The mental battle to beat it is probably the hardest thing to deal with,” he confessed.
Reflecting on his experience two years later, Asherkine advised others battling compulsive eating disorder to take it seriously and seek help.
“If you struggle with compulsive eating disorder, shout out to you. Pay attention — don’t underplay it,” he wrote, adding that he would still create food-related content but “not in such volume.”
