The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabo has called on Journalists and media practitioners to shun reports that incite violence but rather tow the path of responsible Journalism and reportage that will foster peaceful coexistence in Plateau State.
General Irabo made these assertions while responding to questions from Journalists in Jos Plateau on Wednesday 1st September at the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven, as he was on a visit to access the security situation in Jos and also upscale the activities of personnel on the ground.
After a long-closed stakeholders meeting, the General took time to visit Miango in Bassa and some parts of Jos North which were recently affected by unfortunate attacks leading to loss of lives and property, to assess the general security situation.

While speaking to Journalist, he cleared the air on the appointment of a single commander for the operation safe haven and the 3division of the Nigerian Army in July 2021, which has come under serious criticisms by a section of Plateau residents following a spike in violent attacks and killings in the state. He said; he authorized the new arrangement because Jos, had enjoyed relative peace in recent times and felt a need to streamline the operational procedure of the OPSH and the 3division, hence the single commander.
General Irabo stressed that his visit to Jos was to escalate current military efforts to ensure incremental peace in Plateau, urging citizens and stakeholders to give useful information to security agencies which will lead to the arrest of perpetrators of acts of criminality in the state.
Commenting on the latest attacks and killings in the state, General Irabor said, only plateau people can champion the cause of peace in Plateau state, while the military will create the enabling environment for peace to reign.
