Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a British record transfer worth £117 million.
The 23-year-old forward has signed a seven-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club, becoming the most expensive British player in football history.
The deal surpasses the previous record set earlier this summer when Elliot Anderson completed a £116 million move to Manchester City.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Rogers expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, describing the club as one he had admired since childhood.
“I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid,” he said.
The England international also revealed that discussions with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso played a significant role in his decision to make the move.
“I’ve had a few conversations with him, and it was important for me to understand what the manager is like, how he wants to operate and his vision for the team. It fits the way I see the game and how I want to play,” Rogers said.
Rogers added that he is looking forward to reuniting with Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer, whom he described as one of his closest friends.
The pair previously played together in Manchester City’s academy and represented England at youth level.
“I’ve known Cole since I was about 14. We’ve always talked about playing together, so for it to finally happen is really special. He’s been calling and texting me non-stop, and I can’t wait to get started,” he added.
Rogers leaves Aston Villa after helping the club compete in the UEFA Champions League, joining a Chelsea side beginning a new era under Alonso despite not qualifying for European competition for the 2026/27 season.
Chelsea believe the signing represents a major investment in the club’s long-term future as they continue rebuilding their squad under the new manager.
