Cameroonian authorities are searching for a Nigerian cleric, Kedi Samuel Kenechukwu, also known as Ekedi Samuel, after a mummified body was discovered buried beneath a concrete slab at a property linked to his church in Yaoundé.
The body was reportedly found on September 19 at a property in Nkoabang, Yaoundé, during an investigation into activities allegedly connected to Kenechukwu.
According to reports, investigators discovered the remains about 1.5 metres beneath a concrete slab, inside a white-and-gold coffin. The body appeared to be that of a woman dressed in traditional blue clothing with gold embroidery.
The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death have not been established.
Kenechukwu, who is linked to the Mercy of God Ministry, is reportedly wanted by Cameroonian authorities over allegations including human trafficking, unlawful arrest and kidnapping. He is said to have gone into hiding.
The latest discovery came about 10 days after police searched the same property and reportedly found five vehicles, large quantities of food, functioning freezers and about 30 rooms. Officers also discovered a deep pit, although its purpose was unclear.
Earlier, on September 6, security officials searched another property linked to the ministry in Ngousso, Yaoundé, where they reportedly found 20 people in a basement, including 10 women, eight men and two children aged six and seven.
Cameroonian authorities have reportedly alerted border police and requested Interpol’s assistance in locating Kenechukwu.
Police are also seeking authorisation to conduct further searches at the Nkoabang property to determine whether additional remains may be present.
The investigation into the cleric’s activities and the circumstances surrounding the death remains ongoing.
