The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced new compulsory requirements for all online business name update requests, a policy it says takes immediate effect.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, the commission said applicants must now provide additional personal and contact information to strengthen verification processes and improve the accuracy of business records.
“Under the new guidelines, every Business Name Online Update submission must include date of birth, registered office email, proprietor’s email address, phone number for the registered office or proprietor, where different, and a valid means of identification,” the CAC stated.
According to the commission, the revised requirements form part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving documentation integrity, preventing fraud, and enabling seamless communication with business proprietors.
By mandating these details, the CAC expects to streamline its database, ease compliance checks, and deliver more secure and efficient services to entrepreneurs nationwide.
The commission urged proprietors to adhere to the updated guidelines to prevent processing delays.
The CAC is responsible for the registration, regulation, and oversight of companies and business names in Nigeria. In recent years, it has continued to digitise its operations, transitioning from manual procedures to a more efficient online service platform.
