Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has been ranked as Africa’s best-selling artist of all time, according to global music analytics platform Chartmasters.
The ranking credits the “Last Last” hitmaker with 14.46 million Equivalent Album Sales (EAS), placing him ahead of every other African artist in terms of global commercial performance.
The achievement was highlighted by Nigerian music platform The Debut Hub, which shared the Chartmasters data on its official social media page.
Equivalent Album Sales (EAS) is an industry-standard metric that combines physical album sales, digital downloads, single sales and music streaming into a single measure of commercial success, allowing artists’ overall performance to be compared across different music consumption formats.
According to Chartmasters, Burna Boy’s 14.46 million equivalent album units were generated through a combination of album sales, physical and digital single purchases, and streaming equivalents across major digital platforms.
The latest milestone adds to Burna Boy’s growing list of international achievements since his global breakthrough with the 2018 hit single “Ye.”
The Port Harcourt-born artiste has since released several commercially successful albums, including African Giant(2019) and Love, Damini (2022), both of which rank among the most-streamed African projects on Spotify.
Beyond his recorded music, Burna Boy has also established himself as one of Africa’s biggest touring acts, selling out major arenas and stadiums across Europe, North America and other parts of the world while contributing to the global rise of Afrobeats.
The latest Chartmasters ranking further reinforces Burna Boy’s status as one of Africa’s most commercially successful music exports and highlights his influence on the global music industry.
