Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has pledged government support for Master Michael Offorkaile, an indigene of the state who scored 367 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), placing him among the joint fifth-highest scorers nationwide.
The governor made the announcement after receiving the student, his parents, and the management of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, at the Government House.
Commending Michael’s outstanding academic performance, Otti described the achievement as a testament to excellence and merit, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to rewarding exceptional accomplishments.
“As a government built on meritocracy, we celebrate excellence wherever it is found, and his feat is a shining example of what our youths can achieve,” the governor said.
To support the student’s educational journey, Otti directed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. (Mrs.) Uche Eme Uche, to work out the details of the state’s intervention, while his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Dodoh Okafor, was tasked with liaising with the family to ensure smooth implementation of the support package.
The governor said the recognition was intended not only to celebrate Michael’s success but also to inspire other young Nigerians to pursue academic excellence.
“Michael’s recognition is not only to celebrate him but also to inspire other young Abians and Nigerians to strive for excellence, knowing that their hard work will be honoured,” he stated.
Otti expressed confidence that the student’s academic journey would bring even greater honour to Abia State and Nigeria, assuring him of the government’s continued support.
“His journey towards higher education has just begun, and we are confident that he will continue to strive for excellence and bring even greater pride to Abia State and Nigeria. As a government, we stand solidly behind him and will provide the necessary support to ensure his success,” the governor added.
