Popular Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has taken to social media to complain about the rising cost of asoebi, expressing frustration over the financial burden of attending multiple parties.
In a video shared via her Instagram page, the actress revealed that she has eight owambes lined up before the end of the year, and the combined cost of their asoebis is nearly ₦2 million.
Sharing the video, Biola Bayo wrote:
“Please, nobody should take this personal with me 🙏. I cannot afford it, please!
If you give me, I’ll gladly make my iro and buba to come honor you.
I have enough responsibilities than spending so much on clothes that I can hardly wear twice… common!”
The actress explained that attending parties has never been a form of relaxation for her, noting that she often attends events purely out of respect for friends and colleagues.
“Party has never been a form of relaxation for me. If I’m coming to your party, it’s just because I want to honor you — and I can honorably do that without spending so much,” she added.
Her post has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians relating to her plight over the growing culture of expensive asoebi purchases at social events.
