Confusion
was allover on Wednesday, April 5, at the University of Agriculture,
Makurdi, Benue State, following a fight between candidates trying to
register for the 2017 (JAMB) Joint Admission and Matriculation Board and security officials.
JAMB
applicants allegedly beat up security officials at the University of
Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue state, while trying to register for the 2017
UTME NAIJ.com gathered that trouble started when over 2,000 candidates
waiting to register for JAMB felt frustrated with registration officials
whom they claimed were showing “favoritism.”
Daily Post reported, the candidates were provided with just four
computers to complete their registration, hence some of them started
conniving with the officers monitoring the process in order to complete
their registration to the disadvantage of others. An eyewitness, who
pleaded anonymity said: “Students started fighting with security
operatives due to the frustrating registration process, the uniform of
some of the officers were torn. “A soldier was beaten to coma and as he
regained consciousness, he took away three students. As I speak with
you, Army personnel are currently trooping into UniAgric.”
The
fight resulted to the pulling down of the door to the ICT room of the
university. Meanwhile some prospective candidates for the 2017 JAMB in
Ebonyi, Abia and Imo say they are facing poor internet network,
stressful and cumbersome process in registering for the Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (UTME) .
The
candidates claimed that some of them had spent many days without
obtaining the form, even as some who don’t have relatives, had to come
to the state capital every day in an attempt to buy the form.
They
expressed fears that many prospective candidates might not purchase the
forms within the specified time frame, unless urgent steps was taken to
remedy the situation.
