Armed bandits have abducted nine residents and injured two others during a late-night attack on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A relative of one of the victims, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers stormed the village at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2026.

He explained that the gunmen reportedly gained entry through a route linking the community to the Sabon Birni forest, widely believed to serve as a hideout for bandits.

“We were sleeping outside when someone raised the alarm that bandits had attacked our village. We immediately fled for our lives,” he said, adding that he heard gunshots from another part of the community.

According to him, the assailants abducted seven women and two elderly men, while two other residents sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Residents expressed concern over the rising cases of banditry in the area, attributing the situation to the absence of security personnel.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the incident but noted that authorities are still verifying the exact number of those abducted.
