The Taraba State Emergency Management Agency has scaled up emergency response and disaster management efforts following a series of fire incidents in Jalingo.
The agency’s Executive Secretary, Audu Echuseh, led coordinated interventions, deploying assessment teams to affected communities including Jeka da Fari and Nana Aisha, where suspected electrical faults destroyed homes and displaced residents.
Officials assured victims of government support, reiterating the commitment of Agbu Kefas to provide relief and assist affected families.
The agency also responded to separate fire outbreaks at a facility operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company in the Roadblock area and a plastics warehouse in the Saurara axis, recording significant losses and initiating recovery plans.
Echuseh called for stronger preventive measures, urging residents and businesses to prioritise electrical safety and adopt fire prevention practices, especially during the dry season.
In addition to local response efforts, the SEMA boss participated in a regional meeting with the World Bank and other North-East emergency agencies to strengthen coordination, improve early warning systems, and address disaster risks such as floods and drought.
The move underscores ongoing efforts to enhance resilience and build a more effective disaster management framework across Taraba State and the wider region.
