Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Asake, made a special appearance at the ongoing Major League Soccer (MLS) event in New York, where he was honoured with the ceremonial coin toss ahead of the clash between New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew.
The singer, born Ahmed Ololade, shared photos and videos from the event on Instagram on Sunday, showing him posing with players and referees before kick-off. He captioned his post: “gives you wings.”
The appearance underscores Asake’s growing global influence as he continues to extend his footprint beyond the music stage.
Since breaking out in 2020 with his hit single Lady, Asake has risen to international prominence. He signed with YBNL Nation in 2022 before launching his own label, Giran Republic, in February 2025. His discography includes Mr Money With The Vibes (2022), Work of Art (2023), and Lungu Boy (2024).
Earlier this year, the singer earned a Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for the 2025 edition, though the award ultimately went to Tems. He also released Why Love, his first single under Giran Republic, in February.
