A journalist, Ojo Peter, has been killed by armed robbers in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Ojo, a former reporter with Parrot Extra newspaper, was confirmed dead on Sunday, September 8, 2025, weeks after being shot in a daylight attack along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of Ibadan on August 18.

The news of his death was shared by colleagues on a Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) WhatsApp platform in Oyo State. Initial reports suggested his death was health-related, but his younger brother, Enahoro Peter, later clarified that Ojo was attacked for the cross bag he carried.

Enahoro explained that his brother was shot around 2:00 p.m. that day. “On that same day that he was shot, I got a call from one police officer from Orita Challenge that our brother was at their station, but upon getting there I was told he had been shot by a notorious armed robber operating with a motorcycle. That was how we got to know he had gone. This is someone who went out in search of daily bread for his family. He was hale and healthy, but his life was cut short by the bullet of an armed robber in broad daylight,” he said.

Following the attack, police investigations led to the arrest of one suspect, while another was reportedly killed during a confrontation with security operatives.

Confirming the development, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, said the suspects were linked to a series of robberies in Ibadan. He disclosed that one of them resisted arrest and was fatally injured, while the other is in custody.

The PPRO added that the suspects were also connected to another robbery and shooting incident at Anfani Junction on the same day.
