Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has described the loss of two of his close associates as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
Earlier this month, a vehicle conveying the boxer was involved in a road accident after it rammed into a stationary truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Reacting to the incident in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Joshua said the loss was deeply painful, noting that it was even more devastating for the parents of the deceased.
“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are,” Joshua wrote.
He reflected on the bond he shared with the late trainer and coach, saying he often spent time joking and walking with them without fully realising how significant their presence was in his life.
“I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men,” he added.
Joshua acknowledged the emotional toll of the tragedy but expressed faith in God, while offering prayers for the families of the deceased.
“100 per cent it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers,” he said.
