Angry Mob Sets BRT Bus Ablaze After Fatal Crash in Lagos

An angry mob has reportedly set a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus on fire following a road accident involving a commercial motorcyclist in the Ogolonto area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 16, 2026, after the BRT bus reportedly collided with a motorcycle, leading to the motorcyclist’s death. The circumstances surrounding the crash had yet to be fully established at the time of reporting.

Following the incident, some residents and youths in the area allegedly attacked the bus driver and set the vehicle ablaze. Police officers and officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps intervened and rescued the driver from the crowd. He reportedly sustained injuries from the assault and received medical attention.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Amodu Shakiru, confirmed that firefighters received a distress call at about 10:21 a.m. and arrived to find the bus engulfed in flames. Firefighters subsequently extinguished the fire.
