Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan delivered another impressive performance on Saturday, June 6, claiming gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan.

The 29-year-old stormed to victory in a time of 12.72 seconds, setting a new meeting record and eclipsing the previous mark of 12.80 seconds set by American Olympic silver medallist and former world champion Nia Ali.

Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang finished second with a time of 13.17 seconds to claim silver, while compatriot Yi Po-an secured bronze in 13.37 seconds.

Amusan had earlier dominated her qualifying heat, comfortably finishing ahead of the field in Heat 2 before carrying that momentum into the final.

In the championship race, the Nigerian took control after the fourth hurdle and steadily increased her advantage, leaving her rivals trailing. She crossed the finish line with a commanding lead, drawing applause from spectators as her nearest competitors struggled to keep pace.

The victory marks Amusan’s second meeting record of the season. The world record holder recently set another event record in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League, underlining her strong form ahead of major international competitions.

With the triumph in Taiwan, Amusan has now won three of her five races this season and has finished on the podium in every event she has contested, further cementing her status as one of the world’s leading hurdlers.
