President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked rumours suggesting he was critically ill and hospitalised abroad, clarifying that he only took a short vacation in London.
Akpabio made the clarification on Monday upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he appeared healthy and energetic. He was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” the Senate President told journalists.
Reports had circulated on social media in recent days alleging that Akpabio was hospitalised in London. However, he dismissed the claims as the imagination of rumour-mongers.
The Senate President explained that after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, he proceeded to London for a brief rest, describing the legislative year as hectic.
Akpabio assured Nigerians of more robust legislative engagements when the National Assembly resumes, adding that the Nigerian delegation’s strong presence in Geneva would translate into greater democratic dividends and stronger collaboration among the arms of government.
