Laolu Akande, former spokesman to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has applauded the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Friday, Akande described the decision as a bold and commendable step, noting that although it came late, it could mark the beginning of the party’s revival.
“The PDP has now resolved to boldly zone the presidency to the South. Nyesom Wike is right because it seems to be a late decision but better late than never,” Akande said.
He stressed that power rotation must be respected to maintain fairness and balance in the country’s political structure.
“We can’t have a situation where eight years of the North is followed by another eight or four years from the North, it’s just not fair. So kudos to PDP for coming back to common sense,” he stated.
According to him, the zoning decision signifies “the beginning of the resurrection of the Peoples Democratic Party,” adding that the North cannot continue to produce successors against the spirit of rotational presidency.
