Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, has been released from captivity after being abducted on February 17, 2025.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed his release on Saturday, telling SaharaReporters, “Yes, he has been released this evening.” However, details regarding the conditions of his release remain unclear.
Earlier, the Afenifere group had called for the immediate release of its Youth Council President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, who was recently abducted.
In a communiqué signed by its Secretary General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, and National Publicity Secretary, Justice Faloye, Afenifere condemned the worsening security situation in the country.
“Members received reports of a young man, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, whose ordeal in the hands of kidnappers has been circulating on social media for almost a week,” the statement read.
The group urged the Ondo and Kogi state governments to take swift action, noting that the abduction occurred near the boundary of both states.
“The meeting called on the governments of Ondo and Kogi States, as well as relevant security agencies, to act without delay and ensure the safe rescue of the young man,” Afenifere stated.
It had earlier been reported that Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni was kidnapped on Monday, February 17, 2025.
According to the National Secretary of the Afenifere Youth Council, Abiodun Aderonhunmu, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N100 million.
“The Afenifere Youth Council is deeply saddened to announce the kidnapping of its National President, Prince Eniola Ojajuni, in Abuja. The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday, and the kidnappers have demanded N100 million,” Aderonhunmu said.
A voice recording obtained by SaharaReporters revealed a tense conversation between the family and the kidnappers. During the call, Ojajuni, who had already been shot in the buttock, expressed distress as his captors threatened to kill him if the ransom was not paid within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) reaffirmed its commitment to securing Ojajuni’s safe return. In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi urged the public to avoid speculation or spreading unverified information that could compromise the rescue operation.
He further emphasised the police’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security. In response to the situation, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) ordered the immediate deployment of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to prioritize Ojajuni’s safe rescue. Ojajuni was abducted while traveling to Abuja on February 17, 2025.
