Adebayo Adedamola, the politician widely known as FRYO, has been declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Osun State governorship election slated for August 8, 2026.

The primary election was held in Osogbo on Tuesday under heavy security.

Announcing the results, chairman of the primary election committee, Humphrey Abba, said Adebayo secured 919 votes out of 957 accredited ballots, winning the contest by a significant margin. He noted that 20 votes were voided following the withdrawal of one of the aspirants, believed to be Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Abba stated: “The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes, and he stands elected and returned.”

Despite announcing his resignation from the PDP, Adeleke’s name still appeared on the ballot paper for the governorship primary. Party officials explained that the exercise was conducted strictly in line with established guidelines, with only accredited delegates allowed to vote.

Adeleke had announced his resignation in a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to PDP leaders in his ward.

On Monday, Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, publicly declared that the governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, had been postponed due to a leadership crisis at the national level. However, a faction of the party proceeded with the primary in Osogbo despite the announcement.
