ADC Names Chungdung Kele as Sura’s Deputy, Unveils Plans for Plateau 2027 Governorship Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State has unveiled Hon. Chungdung Bitrus Pwajok Kele as the running mate to its governorship candidate, retired Brigadier-General John Sunday Sura, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The unveiling ceremony, held in Jos, attracted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and political associates from across the state, as the party intensifies efforts to strengthen its structures and expand its presence ahead of the election.

Speaking at the event, Sura described Kele as an experienced politician and grassroots mobiliser whose political experience and connections would strengthen the party’s campaign. He said the ADC intended to provide an alternative platform for governance, with priorities including security, rural development and inclusive leadership.

The retired general said his proposed administration would focus on addressing insecurity, promoting peaceful coexistence, improving agricultural production and creating employment opportunities for young people. He also highlighted the need to improve infrastructure, transportation and economic development across Plateau State.

Sura disclosed that the party would embark on consultations and mobilisation across the state’s 17 local government areas as part of preparations for the forthcoming campaign. He expressed confidence that voters would assess the performance of the incumbent administration alongside the proposals presented by opposition candidates.

Kele, who previously served as a councillor representing Gyel ‘A’ Ward in Jos South Local Government Area, was described by the governorship candidate as a politician with extensive grassroots experience and the capacity to mobilise women and young people.

ADC officials at the event expressed optimism that the joint ticket would broaden the party’s appeal across different groups in the state as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party’s emergence of a governorship and deputy governorship ticket comes amid preparations by political parties to contest the Plateau State governorship election scheduled for 2027.
