Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has dismissed claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that social critic Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been granted bail, describing it as “social media bail.”

Adeyanju, who is part of VDM’s legal team, said the EFCC has yet to provide any official bail documents despite repeated requests. He made the disclosure in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Adeyanju said: “Bail granted VDM, social media bail as we are yet to receive any bail document from the commission.

“We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday that we were informed about decision to grant bail.”
Recall that VDM was arrested on Friday by the EFCC over an undisclosed offense.
Before his arrest, the social critic had announced his visit to one of the GTBank branches in Abuja, to complain about an alleged deduction from his mother’s account.
Following his arrest, the activist was said to have been manhandled by operatives of the anti-graft agency.
EFCC had said VDM will soon be charged to court, adding that he was arrested following several petitions against him.
On Monday, the anti-graft agency said it has granted the social critic administrative bail.
