A 34-year-old man identified as Saleh Gambazi, also known as Saeed, has been killed after leaving his residence in Rikkos community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Gambazi reportedly left home on Friday evening but did not return, prompting members of his family to become worried.
His body was later found abandoned around Bauchi Ring Road and subsequently taken to the morgue of the Old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
According to the family, the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear, while the motive for the killing had not been established.
The deceased’s younger sister, Salifa Saleh Gambazi, said she was the first family member to receive information about the incident after she called her brother’s telephone number.
She said an unidentified person answered the call and informed her that Gambazi had been killed.
According to her, the caller told her that her brother had been stabbed in the back and died while being taken to the hospital.
She said she was subsequently directed to the Anguwan Rukuba Police Post and later to the Nassarawa Police Division, where the family was directed to the morgue to recover the deceased’s remains.
Gambazi’s father, Saleh Abdu Gambazi, described his son as a peaceful, jovial and dedicated person, saying his death had left the family devastated.
The father said he learnt about his son’s death through his wife after she was informed of the incident.
He said the family had been particularly worried after Gambazi failed to return home and his phone became unreachable.
The deceased’s mother, Hajaratu Abubakar Aminu, also expressed grief over the incident, describing the killing as tragic and painful.
She recalled that she last saw her son at home while he was boiling water for a bath before she left to visit a neighbour who had lost a loved one.
She said she had instructed him to lock the main entrance of the house before she left.
Meanwhile, the family said the police had assured them that efforts were underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
The motive behind the murder and the circumstances that led to Gambazi’s death remain unclear as investigations continue.
