Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, has cautioned Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, against becoming overconfident in his performances.
Speaking on Brila FM’s programme, No Holds Barred with Ifeanyi Udeze, Sodje said Nwabali’s recent attitude on and off the pitch suggests a thin line between confidence and complacency.
His comments come amid criticism over Nwabali’s recent goalkeeping errors and reports that head coach Eric Chelle may be considering alternative options ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff fixtures in November.
“When you have players like Stanley, the way he plays, talks and carries himself — there is a difference between being confident and having a bad attitude,” Sodje said.
“If the coach feels like Stanley will cost us the game, you better make the change now before it is too late. He has been giving us signs that he will do something stupid soon. This is where a psychologist comes in.”
