Team Nigeria’s men’s 4×100m relay team has had its silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games downgraded to bronze after Canada’s successful appeal against its earlier disqualification.

The Nigerian quartet of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede, and Udodi Onwuzurike had initially been elevated from third place to silver after Canada, which finished second in the final, was disqualified for an alleged lane infringement.

Canada had crossed the finish line in 38.11 seconds, behind only Australia, which claimed the gold medal. Although the Canadian team was initially disqualified, it lodged an appeal, delaying the medal presentation.

Following a review, the appeal was upheld, and Commonwealth Games organisers reinstated Canada’s result. As a consequence, Canada reclaimed the silver medal, while Nigeria’s relay team was officially awarded the bronze medal.

With the revised standings, Team Nigeria has won 23 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, comprising:

  • 🥇 10 Gold
  • 🥈 6 Silver
  • 🥉 7 Bronze

Despite the medal downgrade, Nigeria’s relay team remains on the podium with a bronze medal, contributing to the country’s overall medal tally at the Games.
