The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a young man who entered a bank branch in Jos with what appeared to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), demanding N100 million under threat of detonation.
According to the police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, who addressed journalists today, the suspect is currently in police custody and will be paraded at the police headquarters in Jos. Alfred also confirmed that the device the suspect carried was determined to be fake.
The incident reportedly took place while bank staff were attending to customers. An anonymous bank staff member stated that the suspect approached the frontline teller with a threat note attached to the supposed IED.
The swift response by the police prevented any harm or damage, and the situation was brought under control without incident. The arrest underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public in maintaining security in public spaces.
