In a turn of events that left both families shocked and dismayed, a wedding scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2024, in Farin Lamba, Vom, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, was abruptly called off just minutes to the anticipated event.
The would-be bride, Florence Friday, had initiated the unexpected cancellation following a series of disputes with her fiancé, Morgak James, over financial and living arrangements leading up to the wedding day.
Reports say trouble began when Florence requested the sum of N30,000 from Morgak on March 28th to reserve her wedding gown. Morgak, unable to fulfill the entire amount immediately, offered N15,000 and pledged to settle the balance the following week. However, tensions escalated when Florence demanded the full amount by the week’s end, threatening to cancel the wedding if her demand was not met.
Subsequently, Morgak managed to gather the complete N30,000 within two days and promptly transferred the funds to Florence. Nevertheless, the saga continued as Florence issued another ultimatum, insisting that Morgak vacate his family home and secure a separate residence. After extensive negotiations, the couple compromised on living with Morgak’s family for two months post-wedding before seeking independent accommodation. With this agreement in place, Morgak proceeded with customary wedding formalities, including introductions, church arrangements, and bride price payments.
However, despite the apparent resolution, Florence unexpectedly called off the wedding just before its scheduled date, citing Morgak’s failure to relocate from his family home as initially promised. The decision stunned Morgak, who had already invested considerable time and resources into the wedding preparations.
This latest development in the couple’s relationship follows a pattern of postponements and uncertainties. Florence’s family had previously deferred their introduction ceremony multiple times, with one cancellation occurring mere hours before the scheduled event.
In her defense, Florence criticized Morgak’s decision to continue living with his family post-marriage, questioning his financial readiness for matrimony. “I’ve never seen a responsible man who would bring his bride into his family house for his parents to take care of or claim he doesn’t have money while planning his wedding,” she asserted.
As both families grapple with the fallout from the canceled wedding, questions linger over the future of the relationship and the reasons behind Florence’s abrupt decision.
