The political landscape in Plateau State has been buzzing with the recent defection of a former representative from Pankshin in the Plateau State House of Assembly from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This move, prompted by the strides of progress under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, invites a closer examination of the forces and individuals behind these achievements. It echoes the Hausa maxim that there are no bad leaders, only bad advisers, leading us to one of the governor’s key pillars: Senator Napoleon Bali.
First and foremost, I glorify God, the steadfast cornerstone, whose divine guidance has been the foundation for the remarkable achievements of Governor Caleb Mutfwang in his noble quest to elevate Plateau State to a glorious pinnacle.
Secondly, I must mention Governor Jonah Jang, revered as the master of development, is an indispensable pillar in Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s journey. As the undisputed father of Plateau State politics, his visionary leadership has been a guiding force. Governor Jang’s unwavering support has been instrumental in propelling the remarkable success that Governor Mutfwang has achieved thus far.
Thirdly I cannot forget to mention Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, the esteemed former Senate Minority Leader, who stands as a formidable pillar of support and influence behind the successes of Governor Caleb Mutfwang. His visionary leadership and unwavering dedication have significantly bolstered the governor’s efforts to transform Plateau State. Senator Mwadkwon’s commitment to excellence and progress continues to inspire and drive the remarkable achievements witnessed under Governor Mutfwang’s administration.
And Now Senator Napoleon Bali comes in as “One of the forces with obvious integrity, courageous with fear of God” I want to highlight Senator and AVM Napoleon Bali as an esteemed supporter and one of the pillars whose contributions have been invaluable. This acknowledgment marks the beginning, as there are many more devoted pillars whose names and virtues will be revealed in due course.
Senator Napoleon Bali is a figure well-known to me from childhood. His lineage is marked by notable achievers, including the late General Joseph Garba, a one-time United Nations President, and the late General and Senator John Shagaya. These ancestors set high standards of excellence and public service, a legacy that Senator Napoleon Bali has inherited and carried forward with quiet determination and wisdom.
One of Senator Napoleon Bali’s defining characteristics is his humility, a trait ingrained in him through a religious upbringing in Langtang and Gindiri and a disciplined career in the Nigerian Air Force. This combination has forged him into a gentleman of outstanding character and integrity.
A vivid memory that exemplifies Senator Bali’s humility and wisdom dates back to a journey we took from the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kainji, where he had just completed his Alpha Jet flying training, to Jos. During our trip, we encountered a military checkpoint at Gudi Station, an area then plagued by security challenges. The soldiers at the checkpoint subjected us to routine checks, requesting Bali’s driving license (he was the person driving in his car) and instructing him to open the car’s boot. Throughout the process, he complied without hesitation, never revealing his identity as an Air Force officer.
Curious about his calm demeanor, I later asked him why he didn’t use his rank to ease the situation. His response was simple yet profound: “Whenever you see a security personnel on the road, give him his due respect and you will have no problem with them.” This principle of respecting authority and humility in the face of power has not only guided me but has also become a lesson I pass on to my students, proving effective in numerous situations.
Senator Bali’s impact on Plateau State is not only due to his humility but also his strategic wisdom and commitment to service. His quiet yet powerful influence is evident in the progress seen under Governor Mutfwang’s administration. The governor’s success is, in part, attributed to having people like Bali, whose integrity and respect for humanity provide a solid foundation for effective governance.
Governor Mutfwang’s administration is witnessing a period of transformation and growth, marked by various revolutionary changes across the state. These achievements are the result of a collaborative effort that transcends ethnic and political differences, a testament to the potential of unity and collective effort in governance.
The historical context of Plateau State’s aspirations, as envisioned by past leaders like the late Military Governor Joseph Gomwalk, Governor Solomon Lar, and Governor Jonah Jang, underscores a continuous journey towards glory. These leaders laid down the foundations for a prosperous Plateau State, advocating for unity and development. Today, Governor Mutfwang’s administration, supported by individuals like the trio of Governor Jonah Jang, Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, and Senator Bali, is propelling this vision forward.
What Plateau State needs now is a collective commitment to progress. The lessons from our past and the current strides under Governor Mutfwang should inspire every Plateau citizen to look beyond ethnic and political affiliations. Embracing a united front will enable the state to achieve the greatness envisioned by its forebears.
Senator Bali’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that individuals of integrity and humility can have on governance. His life and career exemplify the kind of silent, steadfast support that is crucial for any leader’s success. In a world where loud voices often drown out reason and respect, Bali’s approach offers a refreshing contrast, emphasizing that sometimes, the most profound influence is wielded quietly and humbly.
As Plateau State continues to progress under Governor Mutfwang, the contributions of advisers like the trio of Governor Jonah Jang, Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, and Senator Bali cannot be overstated. Their wisdom, humility, and commitment to service are the unsung forces driving the state toward its rightful place of glory. It is a call to action for all Plateau citizens to unite and support the governor’s vision, ensuring that the state’s future is as bright as its illustrious past.
In conclusion, the journey towards a greater Plateau State is a collective effort that requires the input of dedicated individuals across all walks of life. With leaders like Governor Mutfwang and advisers like the trio of Governor Jonah Jang, Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, and Senator Napoleon Bali, the state is well on its way to achieving the dreams of its founding fathers. Let us all play our part in this noble endeavor, remembering that true progress comes from unity, respect, and a shared vision for a better tomorrow.
