The Plateau State University community is reeling from the tragic news of yet another brutal attack, this time targeting Chikam, a community adjacent to the university. The incident resulted in the loss of Dading James Jordan, a second-year computer science student residing in Chikam.
Despite concerted efforts by the Plateau State government, security agencies, university management, and other stakeholders to bolster security on campus and in surrounding areas, the perpetrators of this heinous act succeeded in carrying out their malicious agenda.
Expressing profound sorrow in a press statement signed by the institution’s registrar, Yakubu F. Ayuba, the Vice-Chancellor and the entire university management extend heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the student body, and the wider university community.
In response to this devastating development, university management has declared a two-day mourning period, scheduled for Friday, April 19th, and Saturday, April 20th, 2024. Consequently, all examinations originally planned for these dates have been suspended.
While urging students to remain calm and law-abiding during this difficult period, university officials call upon security agencies to intensify efforts to bolster security around the university premises. Additionally, university management pledges to explore further measures aimed at enhancing the safety and security of both staff and students.
