In a remarkable effort aimed at uplifting the lives of vulnerable women and youths in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State, the Rural Development Counsellor for Christian Churches in Africa (RURCON) spearheaded a vital initiative on Friday, April 26, 2024. Under the Livelihood and Economic Empowerment Project (LEEP), RURCON, with funding support from the We Embrace Foundation, provided starter packs to over 50 beneficiaries who had completed vocational and business training programs.
At a ceremony, held to celebrate the empowerment of these individuals, marked a significant milestone in RURCON’s commitment to holistic ministry, as highlighted by Mrs. Dinatu Ayizat, the Executive Director of RURCON. Speaking on the organization’s mandate, Mrs. Ayizat emphasized the importance of empowering individuals both spiritually and physically, especially amidst the economic challenges faced by many households in the region. She underscored the need to target the most vulnerable members of society, including widows and youths, and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to make a tangible difference in their lives.
Lasisi Sunday, the Program Coordinator representing the We Embrace Foundation, echoed Mrs. Ayizat’s sentiments, emphasizing the transformative impact of such empowerment initiatives. He commended RURCON for its vision and pledged continued support to organizations dedicated to improving livelihoods and fostering community development.
Mrs. Nanklin Luka, the Peace Building Office and Project Officer, shared her observations on the ground, noting the palpable joy and gratitude among the beneficiaries. She highlighted the project’s reach across various communities in Jos North and Jos South LGAs, including Busa-buji, Shaka, Dura, Anguldi, and Bukuru. Mrs. Luka emphasized the importance of not only providing assistance but also ensuring that beneficiaries receive the necessary training and support to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
Among the beneficiaries were Christopher Musa, Hope Mangai, Namzin Emmanuel, Kangyang Rwap, and Rose Bulus, who expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity afforded to them. They spoke of their excitement at receiving the starter packs, which they believed would enable them to start their own businesses and secure a better future for themselves and their families.
