In a decisive move against the scourge of cult-related violence, the Plateau State Police Command has apprehended 66 suspected members of the Sara-Suka cult group, notorious for terrorizing residents of the state.
Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, unveiled this development while presenting the suspects to the press at the command’s headquarters in Jos. The arrests, made at various locations during the recent Sallah celebration, were part of the command’s intensified efforts to curb criminal activities.
Yabanet highlighted the recovery of weapons from the suspects, underlining the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and their property.
Addressing reporters, Yabanet expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration in the state, attributing it to strategic police deployment. He disclosed that a total of 66 suspects were apprehended across the state, with the seizure of various incriminating exhibits, including machetes, daggers, and a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Additionally, the police confiscated six tricycles, four motorcycles, and a bottle containing illicit substances.
Furthermore, Yabanet revealed the arrest of two individuals in Wase Local Government Area for armed robbery, reaffirming the command’s zero-tolerance stance against lawlessness.
Asserting his commitment to upholding law and order, Yabanet urged parents and guardians to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards, emphasizing that no perpetrator of criminal acts would evade justice.
The Commissioner concluded by extending appreciation to the press for their unwavering support, underscoring the pivotal role of media cooperation in the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force.
