In a recent turn of events, allegations of corruption and neglect of workers’ welfare have surfaced against the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Plateau State Chapter, Comr. Yohana Arandong Makwin. These accusations were brought to light by a group identifying themselves as Concerned Local Government Staff (CLGS), led by Gopep Gotau and Rabo Chinge, who claim that Makwin betrayed the trust of local government workers.
The accusations, published under the headline “CLGS Accuses Plateau State NULGE President of Corruption and Nonchalant Attitude Towards Workers Welfare,” detail various allegations, including fraternizing with the state government, embezzlement of workers’ salaries, and mismanagement of palliatives totaling millions of naira.
However, in response to these allegations, Makwin and his associates have vehemently denied the claims, labeling them as false and misleading. They attribute the allegations to the malicious intent of Daniel Kura, whom they accuse of fabricating lies to tarnish Makwin’s reputation. Makwin’s legal team has been instructed to take legal action against Kura for defamation.
“While the allegations are false and baseless, it is imperative to address them to ensure the truth prevails,” stated Comr. Napon Jacob, Comr. Diggs Gyang Bitrus, and Comr. Cedrick Fapon, in a joint statement. They further emphasized the need for the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to take appropriate measures against Kura and uphold the integrity of journalism.
The statement also called upon security agencies to investigate Kura’s motives and prevent any further spread of false information that could disrupt the industrial peace and harmony in Plateau State. Additionally, they urged authorities to compel Kura to produce Gotau and Chinge for questioning to ascertain the validity of their claims.
This unfolding saga highlights the importance of accountability and integrity in both journalism and public service. As the investigation progresses, stakeholders await further developments to uncover the truth behind these allegations and restore public trust in the leadership of NULGE in Plateau State.
