Plateau State University Bokkos has announced its decision to resume academic activities following recent security challenges that disrupted normal operations. The management, led by Registrar Yakubu F. Ayuba, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
In light of the disturbances that occurred, resulting in the tragic loss of a student’s life and subsequent protests, the university management has imposed a fine of Seven Thousand Naira (N7,000.00) on each resuming student. This fee is designated to cover the cost of damages incurred during the riot that took place on April 19, 2024.
Efforts to restore calm and normalcy were undertaken by the university management, the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders. As a result, it has been decided that academic activities will resume on Thursday, May 2, 2024. However, the resumption will be staggered into batches to ensure a smooth transition.
According to the registrar, 200 and 300 level students are scheduled to resume on Thursday, May 2, 2024, with their examinations commencing on Monday, May 6, 2024. Subsequently, 100 and 400 level students are expected to resume on Monday, May 20, 2024, in preparation for their examinations starting on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
To facilitate the resumption process, the university management has outlined several conditions that students must adhere to: Only students who have paid their school fees are permitted to resume and participate in examinations. Each student must provide a letter of undertaking, attesting to their commitment to future good behavior. This letter must be endorsed by a traditional ruler of no lower status than a District Head. Non-indigenous students may obtain the required letter from a recognized community leader. All outlined conditions must be strictly adhered to before students can gain access to the university premises and examination halls.
It is imperative for all students to take note of and comply with these conditions as the university prepares to resume academic activities. The revised first-semester examination timetable is available for consultation in respective departments, faculties, and on the university’s official website.
The recent disruptions prompted the suspension of academic activities on Friday, April 19, 2024. However, with concerted efforts and stringent measures in place, Plateau State University Bokkos is poised to navigate through these challenges and resume its academic mandate.
